Gland Finale: Hot Off The Press

What I have learned over the last 20 years is that our bodies are continuously changing.

Keeping up with these bodily changes requires necessary modifications. There are times I feel like I need to put myself on a schedule similar to my car tune-ups

  • Rotate the tires

  • Change the oil (that’s a big one)

  • Transmission Flush Service (how’s that for a visual?)

Have you ever felt like the Tin Man?

yoga for menopause

I’ve always loved this image! Truth be told, what gets me about this pic is not really the thicker girth and the complete inability to do the forward bend—it’s the oil can. THE OIL CAN!!

As women, our bodies take on significant changes over the years yet unlike our cars, we don’t have a check engine light or even a drivers manual to let us know what in the heck is going on when these changes occur.

This is why I’m offering an entire day retreat dedicated to women in all stages of menopause so we can come together for a check up. It’ll be like our own person oil can. I’m calling this day retreat …

THE GLAND FINALE

The Gland Finale will offer you …

… a day retreat to give you the tools you need to adapt to the change in a healthy and positive way through yoga. I’m offering wellness tools that won’t fight nature, but rather address physical, emotional and lifestyle issues to help improve your lifestyle and renew your energy.

Due to menopause being a largely invisible and under-discussed topic in wider society, women often deal with menopause-related complications on their own. Social support and awareness have been shown to reduce negative menopausal experiences; however, lack of menopause knowledge, particularly among younger people, may deter women seeking support when suffering from menopause symptoms.

In addition to learning and practicing mindful ways of working with the change through breathing and yoga, through connection and conversation, I thought it would be great to get a medical expert to help us out.

So … I would like to introduce to you my long-time friend, Katie.

Co-Facilitated with my friend Katie Ward DNP, WHNP

  • Adjunct Professor, Obstetrics And Gynecology

  • Professor (Clinical), College Of Nursing

Click HERE for a full bio on Katie.

Dr. Ward has established herself as an expert and local resource in family planning, abnormal pap management, chronic pelvic pain, and sexual health. She is the former Executive Director of MS and DNP Programs at the University of Utah College of Nursing and was previously the Director of the Nurse-Midwifery and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program. Dr. Ward maintains a clinical practice with BirthCare HealthCare as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.

Dr. Katie Ward passed the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) Certified Menopause Practitioner (NCMP) competency examination. This means that she is the first NCMP in the University of Utah Health System!

As the definitive resource for menopause and other midlife health care issues, NAMS developed a competency examination program in 2002 to set the standards for menopause practice, and assist women in locating clinicians who could provide optimal menopause-related health care.

So, whether you’re in perimenopause, right in the heat of menopause (no pun there!) or postmenopausal, this workshop is will be a great opportunity to come together as a community and sisterhood, discuss, learn, and celebrate.

Please join us and please share the word.
