What Is Resilience, and Why Is It Important to Bounce Back?

3 Jan 2019

Jeremy Sutton, Ph.D

A year prior to COVID-19 (or CoronaVirus, as some may remember), Dr. Jeremy Sutton wrote about the importance of bouncing back. “Why does one person embrace the tough times while another crumbles?”

We have all faced this encounter. And yet, there is a sort of fatigue that appears to perseverate throughout it all, both emotionally and physically. At first, your instinct may react to the need to immediately FILL BACK UP.

Here are a couple of ideas that may help: Practice self-care and assessment (exercise, sleep, follow a healthy diet).

People can survive the most challenging ordeals—some even thrive. And yet, they may be unaware or unclear exactly how they got through the challenges they faced.

(Neenan, 2018)

I would like to introduce you to Scott Moore

He offers many programs that can help stave off your fatigue and assist you in building up resilience toward difficult times.

Check out his website.

Resiliency seems important to cultivate given the unrest in our political climate, recurring  daily reports of disaster and the seemingly never-ending negative news reports offered up on our ever-present and ever available devices.

Our fatigue is often caused not by work, but by worry, frustration and resentment.

So, what can we do about this?

I have a couple of ideas:

  1. Eating Whole Foods

  2. Exercise

  3. Talk Therapy

  4. Sleep

  5. Yoga (Thursdays at Noon with Mosaic Yoga is a good day!)

  6. And Reiki

In the meantime, please go outside and take off your shoes and feel the Earth below you. Ground yourself. Breathe. Feel the breeze.

Looking forward to seeing you.
