Art Allows Pathways of Expression to Flow

Over the weekend, Abigail and I participated in a Fearless Metallics class with Samantha DaSilva. This was a 10 hour workshop taken over two days allowing us the opportunity to slowly adjust to the challenges and process of designing and releasing our emotions into our creation.

As expected, and through gentle guidance, the first day seemed to take longer but the second day flew! Although the exact same time was offered in each day, the second day appeared fleeting, lighter; there was a familiar levity in the room opening up opportunities for conversation and a new found confidence making us comfortable enough to share our artwork with one another.his was a welcomed exchange.

Is it the actual expression of art that allows this process to occur? Is it the therapy side of art?

Interestingly enough, the Latin roots of the word emotion are e (out) + movere (move). In an ideal world, emotions create feelings that flow naturally. But oftentimes they get dammed up.

Whatever you’re feeling these days, it can be a lot to carry. Expressing emotion through art is an incredible way to release those feelings before they get too deep and begin to create other problems.

Grounding ourselves with specific instruction and gentle breathing, the pathways toward creativity slowly began to open, making their way evident. Supported by words of encouragement and the continuous guidance blended with technique and style, each of our paintings began their emergence from within.

A copper vein identifies itself on a tarnished landscape.

A shimmering silver streak seeps through a rusty colored sandstone.

Their significance may or may not yet be known, but their emergence has arrived!

In the end, we share a welcomed group critique that offers an additional enlightened pathway as we each present our work experimenting with the process by rotating our pieces clockwise, offering a different perspective of our work; doing so, opened up even more pathways toward our inner selves.

Art and Yoga Day Retreat is offered Saturday, Aug 26,t from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. (lunch included)

A Sound Healing will close our event offering ALL a special treat to a wonderful day.
