In the Bleak Midwinter
By James Taylor
(my favorite version)
In January of 1872, a poem was written by an English poet Christina Rossetti and published under the title “A Christmas Carol.” The title of the poem? “In the Bleak Midwinter”
I must give my heart …
This year, my family and I have decided to give events, rather than presents. With everyone flying in from far away places and feeling rather poor, the desire to be together still stood strong.
Text messages with ideas of what to do relayed across cell phone screens.
Homemade meals followed by various activities
Die Hard movie (Christmas theme debatable)
Ice-skating
Watch Wicked in the movie theater
Play poker …Just to name a few ideas
High on the list is Snowshoeing at Wasatch Park.
Have you ever been?
Well, it’s beautiful.
At Wasatch State Park you can still rent snowshoes for under $20 bucks, go snowshoeing through deep snow with very little traffic AND …
You can bring your puppies!
Back to the poem,
“What can I give Him
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would give a lamb
If I were a wise man, I would do my part
Yet what I can, I give Him
Give my heart”
When we are poor, we may not quite be as we think.
Perhaps, all that is needed
Is each other.
And so let it be so
We can be with one another.
“Yet, what I can, I give him
Give my heart”
Wishing you a restorative and heartfelt season.
