What IS  Reiki?

Many of you know that I retired from school teaching last May. Well, the NUMBER 1 question I am asked on a regular basis is, “What do you do with all of your free time?”

Ok, now I know many of you who know me have already answered this question and you really don’t need my response at all.

For the others who may be a tad curious, let it suffice to say that, umm … well, “I’m filling up that free time rather rapidly.” I am finding myself thoroughly loving being in charge of my own calendar and schedule for the first time in 34 years!

What does THIS MEAN?

(and … you still haven’t answered the first question yet. What is Reiki?)

  • I’m writing children’s books (a LIFELONG passion of mine - we’re talkin’ PRE-Michael)

  • I’m relaunching Revealing Grace (A Story About a Cancer Adventure and a Community) 2nd Edition

  • I’m teaching yoga on Thursdays at Noon (I love it! https://mosaicyoga.squarespace.com/config/)

  • I’m subbing in classrooms (often grades I’ve never been able to teach before)

  • I’m practicing Reiki

Wow, that’s not very “retirementy.”

But … you still haven’t answered the question.

What is Reiki?

Reiki” (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy, and is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing. This tradition was founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication.

We live in a world of energy that nourishes and maintains all living things. When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us, and we experience a sense of well being.

There are many variations of Reiki, but in essence Reiki treatments can help the body emotionally or spiritually. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system.

Reiki treatment is a process that anyone can enjoy in the normal course of their life. Reiki can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatments and often helps to provide emotional support during recovery. The practice is taught by Reiki masters / teachers who have trained in the tradition, passed on in person from master to student.
