As a child, I used to swing on a swing set every single day.

It was my moving meditation, and later in my life, I understood that this was a tool for me to connect to both my mind and body.

I would also discover that this was something I handed down, genetically to my daughter, who moved (and self soothed) the same way.

The human body is the ultimate healer – a title belonging to no therapist.”

Below is a brilliant article on this concept Finding Center through Movement.

I’m currently writing from the Central coast in California. Each morning I get up and take an exercise class with yoga often woven in the middle of the day. Then in the evenings, I take a sunset walk.

On this particular evening, I passed a schoolyard where I saw a single child swinging on a swing set until the sun completely set and it was too dark for her to stay out anymore.

I continued to walk toward the ocean, witnessing the sunset over the bay. I’ve written about this before, but on this particular evening, I stood with many people who paused their day, put down their phones and lifted their heads to watch the sunset.

No one spoke.

No one needed to.

There was a collective consciousness occurring in that very moment.

It caused me to think about that little girl within me who is no different than that little girl on the swing set. There are days where the momentum takes me too far either direction, where finding my center cannot even be imagined.

But I always come back to the swing set. Perhaps it’s the gravitational force I seek? Perhaps I enjoy the centrifugal force pressure on the edges of my upswing and back swing? Or perhaps it’s simply a movement of swinging back-and-forth while the sunset awaits darkness where I am assured of returning home.

After the “election” I wrote an article.

This article addresses listening to your body as it is probably right.

Listen to your gut instinct.

It supersedes all things.

I encourage you to reread it, especially now. I have a feeling the next few articles that I write will be l about how to find our calm in the midst of the storm.

Remember, everyone has their own version of the swing set. Reclaim yours during this time of change and uncertainty. The movement brings us back home.
