Join Me On El Camino!
Friends and yoga enthusiasts! So far, I've shared yoga, musing on COVID times, and my personal stories with you.
And, for my next trick, I’m now pleased to invite you to join me in spirit on an overdue pilgrimage!
I’ll be walking The Camino Frances, and I’ll be bringing you stories from this grand adventure. Won’t you come along?
Michael and I will be walking 550 miles in the span of 34 days. We hope to meet people from all backgrounds, avoid a sunburn, and eat so, so much bread and cheese and enjoy more than our fair share of wine!
Community is Essential
There is something very human about being part of the shared procession towards Santiago. You have a shared goal with all the people who walk the trails, no matter where they are from or what their backgrounds are. Part of the purpose of a pilgrimage is to share your journey with others. The nods of acknowledgement, the call of “Buen Camino” and occasionally “Ultreia” will keep you company on your pilgrimage, and remind you that you aren’t alone.
We chose the French Way, partly, I must admit, because of the movie: The Way with Martin Sheen (I do like this man!) But we also chose it because of its geographic proximity toward St. James, its distance and its popularity. I wanted a community!
This Camino is an ancient pilgrim path across the North of the Iberian Peninsula, starting by the gorgeous red and white town of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and finishing in the holy city of Santiago de Compostela.
Many people from all over the world travel to Europe to walk the Camino de Santiago each year. While it was traditionally used by pilgrims, anyone can do it nowadays, no matter their religion or motivation.
Preparing for an unknown result, because there is no end — it’s simply the journey.
Perhaps we are walking for the following reasons: To let go, for the physical challenge, or to explore the many churches. Perhaps we are walking for the wine (did you know that we can fill our scallop shell with local red wine at Bodegas Irache Wine Fountain? A Wine Fountain!!!!) Perhaps we are walking for solitude, for camaraderie or for the Compostela.
What I know is that we are walking for the known and the unknown. This is good enough for us right now.
Perhaps you’ll allow me to use this moment to nudge you toward your own unknown…?
What adventure would you like to be on this summer? Maybe you are doing your own world travel, or maybe your adventure is to the Saturday farmer’s market. And maybe your grand adventure is one of the mind. Great, great, great!
The unknown is good for the soul, and your soul deserves all the good in the world.
And, as always, adventure is out there! Let’s meet it!
With enthusiasm,
Amy
