Steady Against Change

I’ve discovered that the more I try to hold onto the familiar and comforting, the more I experience stress.

I read in the New York Times that the difference between coping and resilience lies in our ability to manage our behavior in response to stress. Coping strategies are  mental and behavioral strategies to handle stressful events or negative psychological and physical outcomes. Resilience is the adaptive capacity to recover from stressful situations in the face of adversity. In short: to cope is to survive through stress, and to be resilient is to learn from stress and overcome it.

I’ll tell you, dear reader, the truth: I kinda hate that I’m required to continuously cope and be resilient, but I am.

For me, everything is yoga. I see life through the lens of body, mind, and spirit. However, not everyone LIKES or resonates with yoga terminology so to make it more accessible, sometimes I call it, “Resilience Skills.”

Resilience Skills: (Yoga- 5 of the 8-limb path))

  1. Self-Awareness (Samadhi)

  2. Attention (Dharana)

  3. Physically letting go (Asana)

  4. Mentally letting go (Pratyahara)

  5. Accessing & sustaining positive emotion (Pranayama)

Like many of you, I am experiencing so many moving parts in constant motion encircling me. I find it difficult to plan outings, events, and gatherings.

And yet, it is in my yoga teacher training that reminds me that when I practice mindfulness, breathwork, and Asana then my resiliency improves, my quality of life raises and my stress and anxiety decrease.

Life’s inevitable challenges suddenly become opportunities.

But, our current situation is a marathon!

I would like to offer you some ease in your effort, a rest station at the 20-mile mark.

Recover and Reclaim offers a 2-hour respite  that invites  you to Recover from the stress and strain of aCovid-haunted holiday season. and Reclaim the peace of mind that you deserve. Though it is almost 2 weeks away (Jan 22nd), to make things safer, Mosaic Yoga is limiting the number of people who can join in-person. I have 5 more in-person spots available. If you wish, you can also join via Zoom. I’ll also record the Zoom so that you can watch the replay if you wish.

If you are in need of a deeper recharge for the soul, please join me and my dear friend Jeannette Snyder for our Writer’s Movement Retreat in beautiful Moab, Utah, February 24th through 27th, for a weekend of writing, creating, yoga-ing, and adventuring! Allow Utah's red-rock desert to inspire you as you step away from your daily life and into the expanse of the creative process.

What I’ve learned is that resilience is most accessible when my cup is full. I have a sneaking suspicion that that’s the same for you, too. I’m honored to offer opportunities for you to step away from normal life, whether it be for 2 hours or a whole weekend! Not only are we worthy of internal peace and groundedness, but our families and communities absolutely thank us for showing up from this place!
