A Teacher’s Mindset Plus Save The Dates

There is a scene in Arthur’s Perfect Christmas Arthur's Perfect Christmas (2000) Final Sequence (Timed sequence: 2:04-2:13) where the teacher character in the show sits before a calendar and is excited for various assignments and tests that he is planning for the school year. I used to show this movie to my children when they were young, but I think I remember that particular scene because there’s a part of me that IS that teacher character!

Teachers love to plan! Perhaps, it’s a necessity, I mean, it makes the week go by so much easier when you know what you’re doing. But the truth is, I think teachers like to know what the future can bring.

Teachers are also notoriously Overthinkers. I always like to plan 90 minutes worth of work to fit into 60 minutes just so I can make sure I have enough scheduled.

 Teacher’s Mindset:

  1. Care deeply

  2. Worried about students continuously

  3. Exhausted

Teachers are also people who think on their feet and who can problem solve immediately.

A good teacher is a brilliant Manifester. I’ve been told many times that as a teacher I am  on my path. This is not new information but it’s nice to have it confirmed just the same.

In second grade, I wrote a letter to myself saying that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. Throughout my entire 20s I tried everything else except a teaching career. I experimented with communes, I was a barista, I worked as a bartender and food server. I worked with elderly people in a life care facility. I love program directing so that was kind of fun. I worked as a YMCA camp counselor, Director, and I even applied for the Peace Corps.

And then, when I turned 30, I signed my first teacher contract! 32 years later, I am approaching the last 16 months of my school teacher  career, and to be honest when I look back, time has flown by!

But that is only one perspective of teaching. I love teaching yoga! I love teaching all ages in yoga.

Below are offerings that are coming up this year. They are variations of all the things that I love and wish to offer to you!

MBSR-T
April 8-May 6 (2:00-4:00)
(Fee: $150)

We are continuing with the mindfulness base stress reduction for teenagers (MBSR-T)  program. This is the second series of five weeks. Your child does not need to have taken the first series in order to sign up and register for this series. New classes and activities are designed to engage the mind and the body in new and different ways. (plus, I will bring foster kittens.)

Menopausal Gland Finale
Day Retreat
May 20th (noon-5:00)
($150)

The second workshop is a day retreat, and it’s new to me! It’s something my mentor Scott Moore keeps pursuing with me, and finally in a weakened state, he won!

I became menopausal myself, and I turned 43 years old. That was the year that I got diagnosed with breast, cancer and chemotherapy is good about a couple of things number one getting rid of my cancer cells number to, but he may directly into menopause overnight!

I am excited to explore and teach menopausal yoga, which I’m finally calling the Gland Finale.

This day retreat will include guest speakers in addition to yoga poses that will help with symptoms brought on by menopause. It will also be a gathering of all my favorite people who are going through a similar stage in their life, a reality that women face, rather than a f  time period filled with discomfort. I am designing the course to explore ways of celebration of our final third of our lives!

This workshop day retreat will also include a lovely lunch, and will be held at the Local Co-op/Mosaic yoga studio

Yoga and Art
August 26 (Noon-5:00 pm)
(Collaboration with Samantha DaSilva)
(Fee: $175)

The third day retreat is bringing back artist, Samantha, DaSilva, with Yoga and Art! It’ll be five hours of combining two things that I love and work hard to find time for: expressing art! Art is essential for the soul.

We are designing the day retreat, a little different than before. We are starting off with art and ending with yoga. In the middle, we will provide a wonderful lunch that will be catered.

Lastly, we are bringing back our horse ranch retreat, Riders And Writers.

Writers and Riders Yoga Retreat
Oct 19-22
$397

This is a  modified retreat from last year. We will be coralling a horse throughout the entire retreat, so we can practice our natural horsemanship skills.

I’m bringing back my daughter, who is a natural horsemanship instructor.

In addition, I will be offering one hour horseback riding sessions.

We’re adding a hike and stargazing and long restful periods of time in front of the outdoor campfire and indoor fireplace.

We also have a new writer who will facilitate our writing. Her name is Kayden, who is  very good at mediating magic and the natural world through writing.

Of course I am offering yoga, which will be both inside and out,  weather permitting.

We have space for 10 people, but can manage more if people with  camper vehicles or tents. Two of the spots can be held in the Teepee.

  • Natural Horsemanship instruction (horses corralled on site overnight)

  • Horseback Riding

  • Chef prepared meals

  • Yoga

  • Writing Sessions
